Trainer of Trainees for Theatre for Development (TfD) Program – ADRA TOGETHER Project

Background

Theatre for Development (TfD) is an interactive drama approach empowering communities to address social, health, cultural, and developmental challenges. By promoting awareness, dialogue, and community-driven solutions, TfD has proven effective in fostering sustainable development. This Trainer of Trainees (ToT) program aims to enhance TfD’s impact by equipping selected community members to serve as local TfD facilitators, ensuring continued growth and empowerment within their communities.

Program Objective

The primary goal is to develop skilled facilitators capable of independently leading TfD projects, thereby expanding the pool of local trainers who can engage communities in participatory theatre.

Specific Objectives

  1. Develop a solid understanding of TfD principles, methodologies, and practices.
  2. Build practical skills in script creation, community engagement, facilitation, and performance.
  3. Strengthen leadership and communication abilities for guiding communities in self-led development.
  4. Ensure sustainability by establishing a local pool of TfD trainers for ongoing community impact.

 

Target Participants

– Community leaders, cultural practitioners, youth leaders, and educators.

– Representatives from civil society organizations, NGOs, and local institutions.

– Individuals interested in using theatre for development and social change.

Core Training Topics

  1. Introduction to TfD: History, objectives, and its role in community empowerment.
  2. Community Assessment: Techniques for identifying community needs and key issues.
  3. Scriptwriting: Creating relevant, culturally sensitive scripts reflecting community issues.
  4. Theatre Techniques: Basics of acting, improvisation, and audience engagement.
  5. Facilitation & Dialogue: Post-performance discussion skills to foster reflection.
  6. Action Planning: Using TfD to drive collective action and develop action plans.
  7. Monitoring & Evaluation: Assessing TfD project impact and gathering feedback.

 

Methodology

Clearly spell out the methodology you will use to conduct a highly impactful learning experience to ensure results

Duration

The training shall last no more than two months and should any extension be needed, the combined length of training shall not exceed three months.

Monitoring and Evaluation

– Regular assessments during workshops and fieldwork.

– Success is measured by trainees’ ability to independently facilitate TfD projects and community feedback.

Expected Outcomes

– A cohort of trained TfD facilitators capable of leading community-based projects.

– Increased awareness and dialogue on Sexual an gender-based violence (SGBV), Sexual and Reproductive health and Rights (SRHR), Nutrition, unintended pregnancy and early marriages to promote economic, and developmental issues within communities.

– Sustainable TfD initiatives as local trainers continue community-led projects independently.
